Street Graphics

The term "Street Graphics" is short-hand for the publication Street Graphics and the Law.  It is also descriptive of the general approach taken by the authors to regulating the built environment. There were two authors of the original Street Graphics and the Law book; William R. Ewald, Jr. and Daniel R. Mandelker.  Street Graphics and the Law emerged in 1971 when the Baltimore County Planning Commission retained William Ewald's office to develop and draft a countywide sign ordinance.  Ewald chose to partner with Dan Mandelker in writing the ordinance.  When complete, the ordinance was presented to Baltimore county.  Upon reviewing the ordinance, Baltimore County rejected the ordinance as unworkable.  Street Graphics and the Law has been republished a number of times, most recently in 2004, however the basic methodology and premises remain the same.
